Winter weddings take advantage of beautiful outdoor scenery and the already festive mood of the season, but trying to decide what kind of flowers best suit a ceremony at this time of year can be somewhat confusing.  Some of this uncertainty may be due to the fact that there seems to be three schools of thought about appropriate florals after fall.

One the one hand, planners my choose to play on the cool tones present in the surrounding environment, and stick to blooms in the blue, white, and purple color groups.  Try looking at tulips, freesia, statice, irises, silver dollar eucalyptus or anemones trimmed in silver or ivory for an elegant event.

Other couples may wish to make the most of the holiday season and choose floral colours reflective of their Christmas spirit.  Floral arrangements heavy on the foliage component are very effective for winter weddings, as they mirror the striking outdoors.  Combined with vibrant red tones of flowers such as tulips, carnations, roses, and seasonal berries, greenery in the form of cranberry, holly, briar or firethorn can make for a great deal of visual appeal.

Still others may wish to show up nature entirely and heat up the chilly atmosphere using flowers in warm tones of yellow or orange.  Chyrsanthemums, gladioli, and lilies make for a winter wedding filled with color and flair.

Which route you choose is a matter for personal taste, but remember that putting some consideration into how the flowers and colors you choose will set the tone and mood of your wedding, is time well spent.
