Achieving the perfect wedding flowers is not an easy task, especially when you are doing them yourself. Not only do you have to research how to create your ideal bouquet and arrangements, and then find the people who will lend a helping hand, but you also have to keep them looking fresh throughout the day. Fresh cut flowers do best in water, so if placed in dry arrangements, they will need a little help looking and staying perfect throughout the ceremony and reception. This task is usually given to somebody in your bridal party, such as your maid of honor or one of your bridesmaids. Some easy tips and tricks include keeping a small spray bottle on hand if decorating with scattered rose petals. This works well to the petals slightly moist, preventing them from drying out and curling up. For roses, some of the outer petals may need to be removed if they start to discolor. This will not damage the rose, nor will it be noticeable for it is a common practice used by florists. For sensitive flowers that will be used throughout the entire day, keep extra flowers in stock in a back room. These should have plenty of water and be kept in a cool and dry place. This way, drooping flowers can be replaced while guests are in another area.
Of course, you can maximize the vase life of your arrangements by placing them in water. Dry arrangements such as bouquets can be placed in water when not being used. For example, the ceremony bouquets only need a vase in order to be converted into table centerpieces, perfect for the bridal dinner table. If you are using flowers in your hair, you may want to have extras on hand in case some start to discolor and need replaced. Just remember that wedding flowers look great in and out of vases, but keeping them fresh requires subtle tricks and clever planning.
