The Secret to a Happy Wedding Day

November 6th, 2008 Posted in Wedding Planning and Ideas

I remember when I got married a wise old lady, my grandmother told me that there were 3 things that were going to happen to upset me and to not let those things get to me. Those 3 things were:

  1. Somebody was going to say something rude or mean to me.Fiftyflowers wedding flowers
  2. Something will go wrong.
  3. Relax and enjoy the day will fly by so stop and enjoy it as it is going.

She was so right and hearing those words before the wedding really helped me have a more enjoyable experience. On my wedding day, my dear Aunt Peggy before the wedding started, came up to me and said. “Oh Dear, I see that those skin treatments you were doing didn’t work to remove the brown spots from your beautiful face.” Thanks a lot Aunt Peggy for making me like I looked horrible.

The thing that went wrong was that my priest died. On Friday, our priest had a massive heart attack and left this earth. OMG!! If that wasn’t a sign to stop us from getting married, I have no idea what was. Our family pulled together and got another priest to marry us.

Thirdly, my wedding was from 2pm till midnight. It was outside and I had about 400 guests. It sounds like a long time for wedding, but it FLEW by. The whole day seems like a dream now, it has been 3 years, but thank goodness I hired a great photographer because he documented just about every person that attended the wedding. About ever month, I pull out the pictures are look at all the details ~ my wedding flowers, the cake, the dance floor full of my dearest friends and family members, the buffet, all the decorations and much more. Each time I look at the pictures I always see something new ~ either a familiar face or a detail that I did not catch before.

Weddings can be stressful events. After all is said and done, it will seem as though that year you spent planning your perfect wedding which lasted a total of 8 hours, really seemed like 20 minutes ~ a blink of the eye. Remember that once all is said and done you will be able to call your future husband, your husband and the following day will be the beginning of a new life, your married life.

what an amazing story for ALL to read! Makes me think of the timeless melody by Doris Day called “Que Sera, Sera”!

Thanks for the inspiration, and the wisdom of your grandmother.

I just got married and I have to say this is so true. My father in law actually called me by the wrong name (my husband’s X’s name) that is obviously what somebody said wrong!
