Precious Invitations: Decorate with Diamonds?

While many are trying to budget and save, others are keen to show off their wealth in the most overt fashion possible: designing wedding invitations that contain gold, diamonds, and other precious gems.
Wealthy couples in Rajasthani, India, have picked up the latest craze in designer wedding invitations, and view the cards as the tone setter for the rest of the festivities.
"Weddings are an auspicious event and no one wants the very beginning - at the inviting level itself - to be tacky or cheap", one businessman was quoted as stating.
These bejewelled invitations can ring up a price tag of just under a dollar on the simple end of things, to twenty-five dollars (and well beyond) per invitation for more elaborate designs. Prices are only limited by the couple’s creativity and budget. Considering the size of Indian weddings, that’s a lot of money spent just on the invitations alone.
Couples on other continents looking to capture this craze may want to save their money, and look into semi-precious stones, cut glass, or other sparkly bits and bobs that can give the effect of a gem, without the financial heart attack.
