Wedding pictures and videos will make the couple recall their beautiful wedding. However, images are not the only objects that can trigger memory; smells do too! That is a reason why brides are incorporating the sense of smell into their wedding, not only by the perfume they wear, but also on the flowers that will be used in the ceremony and reception. Flowers have very distinctive smells, which can make brides relate a specific scent to their wedding day. This new trend, called “scent memory,” is perfect to evoke the emotions and feelings that were experienced on that special day, and bring it back to their thoughts every time they smell them again.
It is easy to find fragrant flowers that can suit to every bride’s need. Some of the most popular flowers with this particular characteristic include:
Lily of the valley: this small yet elegant flower has a very unique, fresh and perfume like smell.
Gardenias: this expensive flower has been captivating brides all over the world due to its fascinating, sultry fragrance. Keep in mind it is a very delicate bloom, which needs to be handled with care.
Lilies: be careful with the lily. This flower, especially the Oriental, has a very potent smell, which some find seductive will others dread it. The white bloom carries a great deal of symbolism, and has been linked to godliness and to sacred women.
Freesias: only a few stems of this fruity scented flower are necessary for a sweet smelling bouquet or arrangement.
Chocolate cosmos: with a smell similar to chocolate, this filler flower will make a wedding bouquet not only smell sweet, but also look amazing due to its rich maroon color.

Consider that even though this is a new trend, it can be linked to tradition. Back in the day, not only flowers were used for bouquets and other decorations, but herbs with special meanings were incorporated into the arrangements. Such herbs include mint, rosemary, chamomile, eucalyptus leaf, peppermint and basil, which can also contribute with aroma on their own.
