Happy Valentines Day!

long stem rosesAlthough many people want to write Valentines Day off as a commercial
holiday, it has actually been celebrated for over 100 years and has a RICH history.

Around the 3rd century a priest, St. Valentine, began to make a name for himself. Check out the history on St. Valentine for a great way to begin the day today.

He conducted marriages
secretly against the wishes of the emperor. The emperor did not want
young men to marry. He felt young men made better soldiers. When it was
found out what Valentine was doing, he was arrested and was later
beheaded.

It
wasn’t until about 200 years later that Valentines Day began being
celebrated.

Historians trace this day back to St. Valentine.
At that time, flowers and feathers were already symbolic of this
holiday. Today, however, cards, flowers, chocolates, and jewelry are associated with this holiday as well.

I heard on the radio this morning a reminder to men that on this day anything is better than nothing. Even if you have waited, Hallmark
still offers over 500 Valentines Day Cards this year, so certainly you
can find the one for you.  (And don’t feel bad, over 45% of sale
transactions made today include a romantic Valentines Day card.)

And
of course, flowers are always a great way to remind that special
someone you love them. Whether you want to send just a few or a few
dozen, let FiftyFlowers help you find the perfect flowers for that special someone in your life.

Happy Valentines Day!
