Last week, I shared with you the Top 5 Wedding Trends of 2013, well, predicted trends that is, and my first trend was Peonies. Well, today we are going to take an in depth look at this wedding flower favorite!
For the past 2 years, Peonies have been the most sought after wedding flower, and this year is no exception. With their lush, full, big, and beautiful bloom, Peonies are said to embody romance and can bring good fortune and a happy marriage.
Many think that peonies are only available in Spring and early Summer, but at FiftyFlowers we have a unique Peony program that allows you to buy Peonies all year long! Of course, this can sometimes vary depending on Mother Nature, but all you have to do to check availability, is visit us at FiftyFlowers.com, select Peonies from the All Flowers drop-down menu (or click here!), then choose your desired delivery month to see what’s available!
How to Care for your Peonies:
Recommended delivery date is 3 days before your event. So, if your event is Saturday suggested delivery date is Wednesday. Your Peony Flower will arrive looking like a golf ball but with proper hydration, the flower will pop open to a large ruffled full bloom.

How Peonies Bloom
- Open your box of flowers and inspect.
- Ensure that your flower buckets are clean and disinfected.
- Fill the buckets with at least 4 inches of fresh, cool water. If you have flower food follow the instructions on the packet to prepare your water.
- Remove flowers from box by cutting any straps.
- Remove any flower bunch packaging material, including plastic sleeve and/or newspaper.
- Cut stems diagonally under running water with sharp scissors to desired length.
- Immediately after cutting, place the stems in the prepared buckets.
- Allow flowers at least 4 hours to hydrate well. Flowers may take up to 12 hours to properly hydrate.
- Keep flowers away from direct sunlight, drafts or excessive heat.
- Change water every 24 hours to keep flowers fresh. Assure that your flowers have sufficient water. The flowers will drink an exceptionally large amount of water upon arrival.
- If your peonies are not ‘popping’ open from the golf ball shaped bloom in time for your event, we suggest re-cutting the stems every 2 hours to help speed up the blooming process.

What do you think about Peonies? Did you or do you want to use them in your wedding? :)

I love the look of peonies, but I’m not sure how they smell. I’m grateful for the garden rose suggestion, too — I know what roses smell like, and they may work better with my budget.
Most of the time, Peonies have a pleasant, sweet smell, similar to garden roses, but this can depend on growing conditions, weather, variety, etc. Same with the strength of smells with our garden roses, certain varieties have more of a fragrance than others! Glad we could help with some different suggestions and options for you! Let us know if you need any help!
