One of the first things many brides begin searching for is the perfect photographer.
When you are looking for that person to document your day it is important that you not only like their work, but that you like the person. Remember, your photographer is going to be at your side throughout your big day. Find someone you feel like you have bonded with when meeting and that will capture your day through their photographs.
While meeting with a potential wedding photographer, you want to cover style, cost, and some technical areas also. Here are some questions to get you started that you will want to discuss in your intial meeting.
- What is your photography style? Photojournalism? Traditional? Or a mixture of both?
- Can we see samples of your recent work? Ask to see specific samples from your wedding ceremony and reception sites if available.
- Does you shoot in medium format, digital or only 35mm? This is important because the photographer needs to shoot in medium format if you are interested in portraits or larger pictures.
- What special effects can you do to the prints? (i.e. black and white or sepia-toned)
- How do you package the prints? Are albums available?
Are online prints available? Can family and friends view and order pictures directly? - Who will be the photographer at my wedding? If it is not the person you are meeting with, you will want to meet them also. Find out how many photographers and assistants will be there on your wedding day.
Don’t let the process of finding the right photographer overwhelm you, but do take your time. You will want to start early because many photographers book up to 18-months in advance.
