Wedding Flowers

Do-it-yourself brides can easily tackle arranging their wedding flowers with a little bit of creativity and thorough planning. Unlike with favors and decorations, fresh flowers cannot be arranged ahead of time. Yet, brides choosing to be their own florist do not have to undergo the stress of arranging flowers a day or two before the big day. As experts in getting fresh cut flowers to do-it-yourself brides, here are some suggestions we have found helpful along the way.

1) Pick your team. Do-it-yourself brides often rely on family and friends to help. Most arrangements can be done by people with little to no flower experience. The key is planning.

2) Assign tasks. It helps if each person on the team is assigned to a specific task. For example, one person may be in charge of arranging the bouquets, another to tie the ribbon, and another to arrange the centerpieces. This allows each person to thoroughly understand her role and how to do it. Plus, it keeps everything looking uniformed.

3) Train your team. You most likely have a picture of the bouquet or centerpiece you want to create. A picture can give a general idea, but the best way to see if your team is capable of arranging the flowers similar to the picture is to test it. We suggest visiting your Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or other location with a selection of fake flowers. Find the flowers you’ll be using in the actual bouquet, and be sure they are of similar size and proportion to the real flowers you’ll use. They won’t be a perfect match, but you’ll be able to put your team to the test. Work together with each person on your team to create you bouquet, boutonniere, or centerpiece. Together you’ll be able to decide how large to make each bouquet, how to distribute the colors if you’ll be incorporating more than one, and other design issues that will come into question. And, since the flowers are fake, you’ll be able to store the bouquet and use it as an example of how each arrangement should look on the day your fresh flowers need arranged.

4) Consider the details. Don’t forget about the little details. Your fresh flowers will need to be properly cared for and hydrated upon delivery. Assign someone to take care of the pre-arranging process. You may even choose to assign one person to be the ring-leader to be in charge of the entire team, which includes dealing with any last minute headaches that may pop up. That is part of a florists job, so being ready for anything will allow you to tackle problems before they escalate.

5) Ask for help. Our team at FiftyFlowers.com assists thousands of do-it-yourself brides create the wedding flowers of their dreams. Don’t be afraid to ask us your questions.
