Destination Wedding: Scotland

We here at the Wedding Flowers and Planning blog have gotten the itch to play travel agent, and will begin featuring locations around the globe that would make perfect spots for your wedding.  Whether they be romantic and timeless, or exotic and exciting, we hope that everyone will find a destination wedding that piques their interest.

Isle of Skye - ScotlandWhether you have family roots there, or have always been entranced by the history and magic of the country, few destinations afford a better opportunity for a fairytale wedding than Scotland.  From the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, to the beautiful architecture of Edinburgh, the country is not only romantic, but diverse.  Couples can have their pick of small, quaint villages along the east coast, the lively party atmosphere of Glasgow, or the majestic beauty of the famous Highlands.

Scotland actively encourages couples seeking their ideal environment to consider their proud nation and their national tourism site, VisitScotland.com, has been helpful enough to place links to useful information on their "Romantic Scotland" website.  Everything you’ll need to know about getting married in Braveheart country is discussed, including:  legal requirements, indices of venues and wedding planners, and even Gaelic wedding vows.

Few sounds are as haunting and scene-setting as Scottish bagpipes, and the traditional Scottish wedding will echo with their dramatic drone.  If a truly traditional look is aimed for, the groom will be dressed in full Highland formal wear, with his family’s clan tartan kilt, sporran, and black Prince Charlie jacket.  The bride generally wears the more familiar white wedding dress.  Depending on the degree of desired formality, outfits and accompaniments can be customized to the couple’s tastes.

Choose from one of over 1200 stunning Scottish castles ranging in size and style from country homesteads to impenetrable fortresses, or if you’re of an adventurous sort, tempt Nessie with a ceremony on a boat at Loch Ness.  Any way you like it, Scotland can do it, the trouble is trying to pick and choose from the endless number of things to see and try.
