Times are constantly changing in various aspects of our lives; technology, economy, medicine, and even weddings. Traditional weddings have moved to more informal celebrations of two people’s union together in honor of their new beginning. More and more brides are researching DIY and even fresh flowers are being replaced by silk. There are advantages and disadvantages to our every changing world and remember to weigh the pro’s of using fresh flowers from Fiftyflowers.com before your purchase silk.

Fresh flowers are always the best to use. Nothing can top the beauty of a natural mini calla, the amazing scent of the grape hyacinth or the texture of a velvety rose petal. It is true that silk flowers won’t die, however, they lack the natural beauty a real flower has. The benefits of fresh flowers include their fragrance, natural beauty, ability to be freeze dried, soft to the touch, and look radiant in photographs. Also, silk flowers are not always cheaper than fresh flowers. Real looking silk flowers can be many times more expensive than a natural flower, especially when you compare them to wholesale bulk real flowers.

Before you make a decision to purchase silk flowers, please take a look at our extensive selection where we have a variety of fresh flowers that will be shipped right to your doorstep. Go to Fiftyflowers.com now!

Despite their undeniable beauty, carnations have gained a bad reputation leading many people to think of them as no more than a “cheap flower”. Who can forget that episode of Sex and the City when Charlotte and Carrie scoffed at the idea of a man bringing carnations on a first date? Well… that actually reflects the opinion of most women about this flower. In many wedding forums I’ve seen how brides ask for approval before considering using them for their big day. It actually seemed like it was a crime to even think of carnations as an option for your wedding flowers! But should we hate them just for being more affordable than other flowers? My answer to this question is definitely no.

Carnations are called “The flowers of God” and the reason is both scientific and religious. The scientific name of these flowers is “Dianthus” that comes from two Greek words “dios” that refers to the god Zeus and “anthos” that means flower. They also make part of a Christian legend that says carnations first appeared on Earth when Jesus carried the Cross. From where Virgin Mary’s tears fell a carnation would suddenly sprang up. That’s one of the reasons why carnations are also known as a symbol of a mother’s never-ending love.

Besides their symbolic meaning, there are many other reasons to consider carnations as a good option for any event or simply as a gift. These flowers are available year around so no matter when you need them you will always be able to get them. They come in all imaginable colors and there are even bicolor varieties and all natural. They don’t need to be tinted to have just the perfect color you wanted to use. And last but not least, they are one of the strongest flowers out there and have the longest vase life.

But if words are not enough, take a look at some of the wonderful things that can be done with these humble flowers before you say “no” to your florist when she suggests them as an option. The amazing look they have when bunched together would make anybody think twice before saying you used “cheap flowers” for your wedding.

Beautiful carnations are available at wholesale prices at www.Fiftyflowers.com.

Floral wire is not required for most of our products. Our flowers are of premium quality with sturdy heads and stems. However, certain flowers have a natural bend or may follow the light. For these flowers you may choose to use floral wire. Please note that when you introduce a foreign object into the stem of a flower, you block the flow of water to the bloom, thus shortening the flower’s vase life. How short the vase life becomes will depend on how well the flower responds to this change.

We encourage brides to wire their flowers if (1) the flowers are going to be exposed to rough circumstances or extensive travelling, (2) if flowers have short or no stems, such as orchids and gardenias, or (3) if you are arranging with spray flowers. Please keep in mind that you can damage the flower if the wiring is done incorrectly. We recommend practicing prior to your wedding day.

Most flowers can be wired simply by wrapping the wire around the stem and covering with floral tape. It is not necessary to pierce the flower.

WIRING ORCHIDS:

To wire your orchids, clip the orchid bloom from where it connects with the stem. Near the base of the individual bloom, where the bloom meets the stem, thread the floral wire perpendicular to the stem through its center. Gently pull the wire until half its length is through the stem. Then use your thumb and index finger to bend the wire straight down, so that both ends of the wire now run parallel to the stem. Next wrap floral tape around the stem, starting at the base of the bloom and work your way toward the end of the stem. Depending on your design, you may wrap the floral tape around the wire, even after the stem has ended. To apply the tape, hold the end in place with your index finger and gently pull the tape while rotating the flower stem so that the stem receives a complete coverage.
