The answer will vary. Most engaged couples will take at least one year to plan their wedding. However, this tendency is slightly changing. Nowadays, a growing portion of newly engaged couples plan to host their weddings 3 to 9 months after the day of the proposal. There are a number of reasons for this: some prefer to start their married life earlier, some want to feel less stress by throwing something simple, and others are doing it for the cost. But, what is the actual time it takes to plan a successful wedding without going crazy? That depends on the couple.
The planning process tends to be very stressful no matter what, but it is important to keep in mind that brides who have long engagements will have more time to plan every detail or aspect for their event. This normally means that the bride will be less stressed during the planning, but are stressed longer because of the time they have to plan the wedding. A bride who has 3 months to plan a wedding will be more stressed while planning the event, but her stress will last 3 months unlike the year long stress of a year long planning! Conclusion: planning a wedding in three months is easy if you have the personality for it.
The two key aspects to short planning are: flexibility and organization. Since time is not on the couple’s side, they will need to be accommodating when dates and times are being discussed. This could be a good thing and a bad thing: it could be a less costly affair since vendors will charge less when they have a space and time is passing by, but, this could also mean not having the church the bride has been dreaming of since she was a little child.
A very useful thing to do when planning an event of this magnitude in a 3 month period is to write all the appointments and plans in a calendar. This way everything is organized by date and activities are easier to track. However, this means being focused enough to complete every program as it is specified. Failing to do so could cause a major problem, since things will be left behind and small, time consuming details will be forfeited.
As for the organization, the bride should start with the most important details such as date, time and colors of the event. Then, she needs to proceed with the church she wants as well as the venue. The next important thing is the wedding dress. Once all these aspects have been decided, the coordination of the food, the flowers, music, cake etc can be made.
Planning a wedding in a short period of time is not easy, but it is doable. The personality of the couple will be decisive on the outcome of the wedding; people that are flexible and organized have more chances of pulling off a successful event. Although stress is always an undesirable guest during the planning process, they outcome is always beautiful: you will be married to the man of your dreams!
