With so many different styles of bouquets, how do you choose which one is right for you? Well, in the next few posts, I will take you through the different styles of bouquets, so you have the information needed to make the right decision! In this post I will discuss the different styles of hand-tied bouquets.

The hand-tied bouquet is a very popular choice for Brides today, as well as one of the easier styles to create for a DIY Bride. Several specific bouquets also fit into the hand-tied bouquet category, such as the the posy, the nosegay, and the Biedermeier, which is also a type of posy. To make a hand-tied bouquet, start with a focal flower, then start adding flowers around in a spiral fashion until you are happy with the shape and size. You can gently adjust any flowers if needed. Then wrap stems with floral tape to secure. You can also tape stems as you go to hold the shape but it may then be harder to make any adjustments to your bouquet. Finish by wrapping stems with ribbon or fabric. For step-by-step instructions, search ‘how to make hand-tied bouquets‘ on google or YouTube!

Here are some examples of hand-tied bouquets done by FiftyFlowers’ Brides…

Like I mentioned earlier, there are several different bouquet styles that fit into the hand-tied category. Let’s start with the posy. The posy is generally defined as a small round bouquet that can easily be held in one hand. The hand-tied bouquets shown above could be classified as posy bouquets as well. Instead of being hand-tied, a posy can also be created by wiring the flowers. This creates a more structured and lighter bouquet, because the flower stems are replaced with wire, making the handle smaller and easier to hold. Because the posy is usually described as a smaller bouquet, it is very popular with bridesmaids and flower girls. Here is an example of some posy bouquets made with fun yellow spider mums…

The next type of hand-tied bouquet is the nosegay. A nosegay bouquet is also described as a small round shaped bunch of flowers and herbs, but often contains more greenery than other bouquets. Nosegay bouquets are also often mounted in a tussie-mussie, which is a small metal or glass cone shaped holder, but they can also be hand-tied. Here are two examples of nosegay bouquets, both of which I found on theknot.com. Notice the greenery around the base of both bouquets, which is part of what differentiates these bouquets from the other hand-tied bouquets.

The last of the hand-tied bouquets is the Biedermeier. In the Biedermeier bouquet, the flowers are arranged in circular patterns of different colored flowers. Usually each ring contains one type of flower, but it’s up to you if you want to do different flowers or just different colors of the same flower. This is a great bouquet for someone that likes balance and structure as it is a geometrically pleasing bouquet. If find that pictures explain this style the best, so here are some examples from the FiftyFlower Brides…
